The Instrument Building Program has an additional year of “Restoration” in which the restoration of bowed and plucked instruments is taught. This year is based on 7BSO, the same as the third year of instrument building. However, it can only be followed if the 3 years of instrumentation have been completed or if enough previous knowledge and skills can be proved.

During the restoration year, basic restorations are learned such as cracks and fractures, neck grafts, peg bushings, refretting, retouching of varnishes, etc.

The classes are often project-based, meaning that the restoration is done according to the needs of the instrument to be restored.
